Notes that branch.

TreeNote is a hierarchical notebook where every note can hold children — as deep as your work needs. Like folders that are also pages. Yours by default, private, syncable when you want.

Free forever for local use. No account required.

A notebook that matches the shape of your thinking

Most note apps are flat lists with tags bolted on. TreeNote is different: the hierarchy is the product. Every note is also a container. Nest as deeply as you need. Expand only what matters right now.

Nest as deep as it takes

Project → Sub-project → Meeting notes → Decisions → Follow-ups. Every node can have children. There's no depth limit and no performance penalty for going deep.

Yours by default

No account required to use TreeNote. Nothing leaves your device unless you turn on cloud sync. No telemetry, no analytics, no ads, no third-party SDKs in the local-only mode.

Sync when you want

Enable TreeNote Cloud to keep your notebook in sync across every device you sign into. $2.99/month or $29.99/year with a 14-day free trial. Cancel anytime.

Everything you'd want, nothing you wouldn't

The tree is the product

Long-press any row and drag it. Drop over the middle to make it a child; over the top or bottom to reorder among siblings. Rearrange your knowledge without breaking flow.

  • Unlimited depth, expand and collapse each branch
  • Drag to reparent, drop to reorder
  • Sort children alphabetically, oldest, or newest
  • Move-to picker for precise relocation

Tasks and notes, one workspace

Any note can become a task with a tappable checkbox and an optional due date. The Tasks view collects every open task across your entire tree, grouped by Overdue, Today, and Future — so nothing hides in a sub-branch you forgot to expand.

  • Convert any note to a task, or back, in one tap
  • Optional due dates on any task
  • Tasks view groups by Overdue / Today / Future
  • Tap a task to jump to its context in the tree

Full-text search that just works

Search every title and note body as you type. Results appear in under 300 milliseconds with the matching text highlighted in a snippet. Tap a result to open the note, or tap its breadcrumb to see where it lives in the tree.

  • Full-text index across titles and bodies
  • Snippet previews with highlighted matches
  • Breadcrumb paths on every result

Made for technical notes too

Flip any note into monospace rendering with one tap — config files, JSON, command output, code snippets read the way you wrote them. Tap-to-open hyperlinks let you keep a bookmarked URL inside the note it belongs to.

  • Code mode: monospace rendering per note
  • Auto-detected URLs with tap-to-open (always confirms first)
  • Rich text formatting when you want it, plain when you don't

Portable, exportable, yours

Every notebook exports to a single human-readable JSON file with a .tree extension. Import on another device, share a subtree with a collaborator, archive to your own backups. The format is open and stable. No lock-in, ever.

  • Export the whole tree or any subtree
  • Import .tree files on any device
  • Human-readable JSON — inspectable in any text editor

Get TreeNote

Android

The primary platform. Install through Google Play — you get automatic updates and access to cloud sync subscriptions.

Windows

Desktop companion — same notebook, same tree, on a bigger screen. Sign in with your Cloud account to sync notes between your phone and your PC.

Download for Windows (.exe)

Windows 10 and 11 · 64-bit

Heads up: Windows will show a SmartScreen warning on first install because the installer isn't code-signed yet. Click More infoRun anyway to proceed. Expected for new apps — this goes away as more Windows users install TreeNote.

Cloud sync subscriptions can only be purchased through Google Play on Android. Once subscribed, sign in with the same email on Windows to sync between all your devices.

Common questions

Do I need an account to use TreeNote?

No. The app works completely offline with no account required. Nothing you type ever leaves your device unless you explicitly enable cloud sync, which is optional and paid.

What's different about TreeNote vs Notion, Obsidian, or Apple Notes?

TreeNote is uniquely tree-native. Every note is also a container that holds child notes. Notion uses pages with embedded links; Obsidian uses backlinks between flat files; Apple Notes uses folders. TreeNote makes the hierarchy the primary organizational structure. If your thinking is naturally hierarchical — projects with subprojects, research with sub-topics, personal wikis — TreeNote fits your mental model without you having to work around the tool.

How do I get my notes onto another device?

Two options. If you want automatic multi-device sync, enable TreeNote Cloud ($2.99/month or $29.99/year with a 14-day free trial). Sign into the same account on each device and your notebook stays in sync. If you'd rather not subscribe, export your notebook as a .tree file, transfer it via whatever means you prefer (email, cloud storage, USB), and import on the other device.

What happens to my notes if I cancel my subscription?

Nothing bad. Your local notes on each device stay exactly as they are. Your cloud-stored copy remains for a grace period before being purged. You can re-subscribe at any time, or use the local-only free mode indefinitely. If you want to permanently delete your cloud account and data, there's a delete-account option in the app that wipes everything from our servers.

Do you sell my data or show me ads?

No, and no. TreeNote has no advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, no third-party trackers. The free local mode collects absolutely nothing off your device. The paid cloud mode stores your notebook contents on a US-based managed database (Supabase) purely so we can deliver them to your other devices. We do not sell, share, or use your data for anything beyond the sync service you paid for. See the Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.

Is there an iPhone version?

Not yet. TreeNote launched on Android first because the organic search demand for hierarchical note apps skews toward Android's power-user base. iOS is under consideration — announcement when we're ready.

Can I use TreeNote on my computer?

Yes — a Windows desktop version is available. Download it above. It runs the exact same notebook and tree structure as the Android app. If you subscribe to Cloud on Android, sign in on Windows with the same account and your notes sync between the two.
